It is my goal Insha’Allah to begin with Vol. 1 of Tareekh al-Tabari which is the most authentic and complete history of Islam from creation to Ottoman times and provide summary notes here for each volume as I progress through them.
There are 40 volumes in all covering 4700 pages hence the title for this post. ;-)
This will by no means be an exhaustive summary but highlights of what is presented.
Here is the version that I am reading, it is published by State University of New York Press.
It is the annotated version by W. Montgomery Watt and M. V. McDonald.
If you wish to purchase a copy it can be found at IslamicBookstore.com.
